Together with MUBI and What's Culture we present Cineclub: a series of screenings and talks diving into the stories behind great films.

In this first edition in Melkweg we’ll be exploring how Jim Jarmusch’s cult classic Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (1999) fuses hip hop and samurai. The very essence of cool pulses through the veins of this distinctive genre mixtape with an enigmatic Forest Whitaker in the title role and Wu-Tang Clan's martial arts filmbuff RZA as he combines traditional Japanese music with hip hop. Ghost Dog is a stylishly eccentric synthesis of hitman thriller and bushido lore.

Before the screening we’ll dive into the connection between Asian martial arts and hip hop. Through samples and references, we’ll look at how these two worlds have been brought together in different ways.

Melkweg often hosts different types of programmes at the same time, such as concerts, club nights and films. Please note that there may occasionally be some noise pollution from other programmes during the screening.
