Irish indie rock band The Academic rose to fame after the release of their song 'Bear Claws' in 2017. The song specifically gained success because of their live music video where they used live looping. In 2018 their debut LP, 'Tales from the Backseat', reached number one in the Irish Albums Chart. The band is invluenced heavily by the retro-rock from the early 2000's because of artists like The Strokes, Interpol, and Yeah Yeah Yeah's. Other artists such as Talking Heads, New Order, and Elvis Costello are also big inspirations for the band. They released their second album, 'Sitting Pretty', in 2023. Later that year they were the opening act for singer-songwriter Louis Tomlinson during his tour in America. The Academic will be making their Melkweg debut with their show in our OZ!
