Metro54 x Full Color present: The Blackboard

"The Blackboard" documentary film was produced and directed by attorney/indie filmmaker Marquis Bradshaw. The film aims to challenge what it means to be black in America by examining the issue of acceptance within the black community through the lens of skateboarding culture.

"The Blackboard" stars prominent black pro skaters Jabari Pendleton, Karl Watson, and Ron Allen (one of the first black pro skaters and one of the first skaters to ever receive major corporate sponsorship). As it relates to pop culture, skateboarding among black people has only in recent years become socially acceptable, beginning with artists such as Lupe Fiasco and Pharrell Williams.

With a short introduction & reflection by a skateboarder & expert Guleed Yusuf and filmmaker and vlogger Bibi Fadlalla.

Starring: Jabari Pendleton, Karl Watson, Ron Allen.
Featuring: Solomon Mosley Jr, Larry Redmon, Joseph Wright, Adrian Williams, Myk Pate, Camron Horn, & Jasiatic.
Music by DFLN (Dreams From Last Night)
Artwork by Marcus Kiser

Reflecting Cities is a series of screenings at various locations in Amsterdam— focusing on the relationship between contemporary and marginalized urban culture and film. Reflecting Cities showcases stories from the perepheries and inner cities which question and bring issues such as police brutality, identity and representation and self-determination to the forefront.

Together with guest speakers, filmmakers and audiences Metro54 & Full Color share stories, findings and examples in which contemporary urban culture is shaping new, alternative cinematic narratives.
