Four times a year, Melkweg Expo presents MILK EXPO in MILK café, adjacent to the exhibition space. This way you can be inspired by even more art while enjoying a drink after your visit to the Expo. Simultaneous to Back in the Day is our Future, you can see the work of Bas Schippers in MILK, while Kee van der Meer shows her graduation project from Willem de Kooning Academy.
Bas Schippers (1992) graduated from AKI in Enschede last year. While he mainly focuses on the themes of masculinity and vulnerability Bas uses stereotypes and cliches to question these topics. Through raw and wild brushstrokes, the confusion of growing up and having to live up to a certain ideal are being shown. This is being contrasted by carefully painted motifs and geometric patterns that bring balance to the work - check out @bas.schippers Instagram.
Kee van der Meer (1995) makes films, installations and conceptual artworks. Her works are originated from investigating language, and are motivated by emotion, such as anger. Her films focus on the inability of communication which is used to visualise reality, the attempt of dialogue, the dissonance between form and content and the dysfunctions of language. In short, the lack of clear references are key elements in the work and transformed into art, language becomes an ornament. Kee van der Meer currently lives and works in Rotterdam - check out @keevdmeer Instagram.
