My Darling Vivian (2020)

IN-EDIT International Music Documentary Film Festival 2021 - NL Première

Online intro: Matt Riddlehoover & Dustin Tittle

IN-EDIT is back! From 16 to 20 June the third edition of the music documentary festival takes place at multiple locations this year, including the Melkweg. Again many great music films will be screened this year, like this Dutch première of "My Darling Vivian" from Matt Riddlehoover with online introduction by director Matt Riddlehoover and producer Dustin Tittle.

My Darling Vivian traces the romantic, wrenching, and dizzying journey of Vivian Liberto, Johnny Cash's first wife and the mother of his four daughters, a woman with an immensely tumultuous life, and forced to live under Cash's shadow.

The 2005 Johnny Cash biopic “Walk the Line” chronicled the turbulent life of the country legend with a particular focus on his relationship with June Carter. But in order to create the mythos of June as his savior, it offered viewers a very unflattering depiction of Vivian, who was married to Cash for 13 years. As a result, her public image boiled down to someone who was little more than an unsupportive nag in Cash's life. Funnily enough, Cash wrote "Walk the Line" about her.
