Our Audience in the Spotlight
Melkweg turned fifty in 2020 and to celebrate we’re paying tribute to the old, the golden, the decade-long regulars and the adventurous new Melkweg devotees in the making. For this exhibition, we shift the spotlight towards the crowd, inviting photographers to produce new work featuring show-goers in the leading role. The photos will be projected on the Melkweg facade and presented online, along with the interviews.
While placing the faces in the crowd in the limelight, this exhibition also gives the stage to the talented photographers capturing them.

The participating photographers spotted their models in the wild at various Melkweg concerts and later shot them on location in their own characteristic style. The models pose patiently, as the divide between fame and everyday life slowly fades.
The result is a celebration of our audience: a radiant collection of people, as diverse as the Melkweg and its programming. A love letter to music fans. We owe it all to you. Here’s to the next 50 years.
