Futures and Melkweg Expo are excited to invite you to the opening of the exhibition HYBRIDS: Forging New Realities as Counter-Narrative on Friday, September 10th.
Eleven Futures artists investigate how our reality is challenged by artistic experimentation and counter-narratives. We will be showcasing their work at Melkweg Expo and in an online environment, activated by QRcodes. The exhibition is part of the photography festival curated by Marina Paulenka (Co-Founder and former Artistic Director of Organ Vida and former Artistic Director of Unseen) who selected projects by Futures talents of the last four years, through an open call. They are:
Maija Savolainen, Hien Hoang, Emily Graham, Carlos Alba, Eva Kreuger, Marta Bogdanska, Alexey Shlyk, Valeria Cherchi, Io Sivertsen, Lena Dobrowolska & Teo Ormond-Skeaping and Jean-Vincent Simonet.
Making use of different mediums in dialogue with photography, these artists investigate the impact of technology and knowledge production on humankind and the natural world.

Co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union, the festival will take place from 10 September to 17 October, bringing together the work of over 70 artists and the expertise of the 13 European photography institutions that are part of the Futures platform.
Artist Jean-Vincent Simonet will present a live performance on September 16 and 17 at MILK, as part of the exhibition. Additionally an online programme of panels and artist talks will be held 16 and 17 September.
Part of the program is a lecture and performance by Morehshin Allahyari on September 16: The Needed Worlds. She will use personal storytelling and her work as points of departure to weave in topics such as digital colonialism, archival methodologies, and myth-thinking for building the needed worlds.
HYBRIDS: Forging New Realities as Counter-Narratives is made possible with the support of Creative Europe, Mondriaan Fund, Pro Helvetia and exhibition partner LG Electronics.
