aLIVE and Kicking is this year’s first edition of Popcontact that focuses on live performance: How do you build a live set out of the box? What does it take to turn a conceptual performance into something powerful and coherent? And how do you make it financially sustainable?
On April 7th at 20:00 in Melkweg, our expert panelists will share insights, experiences, and practical tips on these topics. The night will include live showcases from the master’s students and a very SPECIAL guest act to close the night.
Popcontact is the ultimate hangout for everyone in and around the music industry. A free evening featuring panel discussions and live music, presented by the master’s students of the Pop Department at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

Javier Valdi
Javier Valdi is an three-piece Instrumental Progressive Metal act that combines heavy music with technical and sophisticated elements, with a strong focus on guitar-driven compositions. On October 2025, Javier Valdi released his debut EP ‘’Serendipia’’, well-recieved by the dutch metal scene, earning features on several dutch metal radio shows. This project is now is ready to hit the stages with his band formed by Niels van Heteren (Bass) and Femke Westeneng (Drums)

LifeLoan
Through a blend of confessional piano ballads and atmospherically crafted electropop, LifeLoan transforms frontwoman Tatiana Smirnova’s search for belonging into a deeply personal sound. Influenced by James Blake, Imogen Heap, and Sampha, her music captures emotions often lost in translation. Since debuting in 2024, the Amsterdam-based artist has released her debut self-titled EP and performed across the Netherlands and beyond.

Julia Madou
Julia Madou blends drums, deep basslines and electronics, moving between raw energy and rhythms that throw you off guard. With her music, she wants to let her audience know that they are not alone in facing life’s challenges. Striving to break free from expectations, pushing her limitations to become the best version of herself.Her inspirations range from Sinéad O’Connor, Yebba to 3l3d3p and Danny L Harle.
