Capturing stories with a small pinhole in a soda-can? Visual anthropologist and artist Josje Priester (Art of InfluX) mastered the art of pinhole photography like no other. She challenges people to try it out and to visualise the world they live in. Can You See Me takes you into the world of young adults between the ages of 20 and 30 years who have fled to the Netherlands in 2014 or 2015 to start a new life.
The expo is a unique collection of images and stories created by young people with diverse backgrounds. Melkweg Expo shows the whole process: from the making of the pinhole camera to the negatives and the final pictures.
Can You See Me adopts a form of interactive visual storytelling in which the artist facilitates and the participants create. It builds upon their visions, stories and creativity. Pinhole photography is used as artistic method. The participants took all the pictures themselves with homemade pinhole cameras.
The project was executed in cooperation with Stichting De Vrolijkheid and sponsored by Stichting Janivo and Stichting Kinderpostzegels.
