Together with Heat, an Agency that represents filmmakers, we present a bi-monthly movie night curated by their wide array of passioned creators, designed for everyone looking to connect and be inspired. Every edition will center around a unique host and their inspiring guests; they’ll select a main film that showcases what they are all about and motivates them within their creative field. And they will take you on a two-hour journey into their vision.
This edition is hosted by Ferhat Kaplan with Turkish-German director Fatih Akın's 2004 ‘Gegen die Wand’ as the main film - a raw and pitch-black drama about the rotten lives of main characters Cahit and Sibel. Cahit lives a life of sex, drugs and rock and roll in Hamburg. After a failed suicide attempt, he runs into the young and beautiful Sibel in a psychiatric clinic. Sibel - like Cahit of Turkish descent - just loves life too much to resist it as a strict Muslim woman. Marrying Cahit seems the perfect way to redeem herself from her family. Reluctantly, he agrees to marriage. They share a flat, but little more. Sibel embraces her freedom, Cahit maintains an affair with a loose girlfriend. Until love creeps into their shared lives and the passion has fierce consequences for both.
