Melkweg is also your go to place for film since the early years, with new and classic music films, the very best animation and inspiring engaged programmes in our cosy Cinema on the top floor, and sometimes also in the Max or Rabozaal. Together with the likes of In-Edit, Kaboom, IDFA, Heat, MUBI, Caribbean Creativity and Steppin' Into Tomorrow, we seek out the finest gems, often with special introductions, Q&As and live music. There is also room for new talent with the annual CineRadar. Most of the films are English spoken and/or with English subtitles and therefore also expat-friendly!

It was destined to be, wasn’t it? A collaboration between the Amsterdam venue Melkweg and Kaboom was inevitable. Well, you see, a big BOOM created the Milky Way (or de Melkweg), so let’s say we hold a strong connection! Kaboom Animation Festival is the one-stop shop for the latest and greatest in all things animated and an immense showcase for animation – ranging from cutting-edge experimental arthouse to crowd-pleasing colourful stories for the whole family. Together with Kaboom we are hosting monthly anime film nights in our Cinema, bringing the best anime to the big screen!
