Grease (1978)

Together with Fanclub Centrum, every two months we invite a special Amsterdammer to curate a film evening. This time, the honour goes to Elisabeth Grijzenhout, co-owner of the legendary Café Nol, podcast host of Nol Lol Amsterdam and soon-to-be author, and together we will watch Randal Kleiser's 1978 classic “Grease”.

Grease is a musical romantic comedy set in the 1950s. The film follows the summer romance between the tough Danny Zuko (John Travolta) and the gentle Sandy Olsson (Olivia Newton-John). When Sandy unexpectedly shows up at Danny's high school, their relationship proves difficult to maintain. Danny acts aloof to preserve his reputation among his friends, the T-Birds, while Sandy tries to fit in with the Pink Ladies. As the school year progresses, their differences become apparent, but so does their desire for each other. With colourful dance numbers, iconic songs such as “You're the One That I Want” and “Summer Nights”, and a nostalgic atmosphere, Grease has become a beloved classic.
