Killing Joke surfaced during the second English punk wave at the end of the seventies. In the mid-1980s theye had a world hit with the gruesome wavenumber 'A Love Like Blood'. The 'hit crowd' that started to come to their gigs soon drove off again: far too loud, far too fierce, too curious, a lot too much Killing Joke!

Killing Joke continued to release albums since the 1980s, but failed to gain back the audience that they used to atrack in the early 1980s. The career of the band is best translated as a flashing light and they also changed their line up several times.

Yet Killing Joke is one of the most influential British post-punk / new wave / industrial rock bands of the 80s and countless musicians have been influenced by them, including the great earth such as Metallica, Soundgarden, Faith No More, Fear Factory, Foo Fighters, Tool, Nine Inch Nails, Korn, Napalm Death, Primus and Soulwax.
