Popcontact is for everyone in and around the music industry. A free evening with panel discussions and music, organised by the master students of the pop department of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
For this edition of Popcontact, we’ll be discussing the disappearance of bands in the charts. Since the early 2000s their presence in the mainstream has become more and more niche, with solo artists dominating the music landscape. How can we foster a culture where people actively seek out live band performances? Are bands still financially viable, and is touring still a realistic option? Are record labels interested in signing full bands anymore...? How do you break a band in this day and age?
Line-up: Bigmoth, Black Baby Tiger, KOITSU DOITSU, Future Husband
Line-up speaking guests:
Bigmoth
Bigmoth is a metal band from Amsterdam's underground scene. The band consists of four musicians from different cultural backgrounds and with influences ranging from metal and progressive rock to jazz, electronic music and more. They bring a sound that is both powerful and atmospheric, through a unique blend of heavy riffs, ambient soundscapes, intricate grooves, haunting vocals and unusual structures. Currently working on a debut album, they are also busy developing a powerful live performance at each show. Bigmoth recently released their first single ‘Hazebound’, which has been well received in the local and international heavy music community.
Black baby tiger
Black Baby Tiger is a Post-alt band based in Amsterdam. Consisting of five musicians, Jasja Brink (vocalist and guitarist) , Ruggero Di Luisi (drummer), Richard Nacinelli (bass), Yam Anismov (guitar) and Vince Railaf ( vocals, FX, keys & precussion). The band experiments with songs that challenge genre boundaries and contain a unique, assertive ‘in your face’, spirit, reminiscent of a ‘Black Tiger’. At the same time, they occasionally reveal moments that evoke the tender innocence and curiosity of a child.
KOITSU DOITSU
KOITSU DOITSU - based in Amsterdam - is Europe's first J-Rock band! The five-piece is here to prove that J-Rock knows no boundaries. It is a mix of energetic riffs, electric stage presence and a wing quirky Japanese Charm. These genre innovators are here to prove that you don't have to speak Japanese to feel the vibe. With a mix of melodic anthems and punchy choruses, KOITSU DOITSU is here to make your speakers work overtime.
