Together with Fanclub Centrum, every two months we invite a special Amsterdammer to curate a film evening. This time, the honour goes to filmmaker and musician Véras Fawaz, and together we will watch Paul Thomas Anderson's 2007 oil epic “There Will Be Blood”.

When Daniel Plainview receives a mysterious tip in the early 1900s about a small but oil-rich town in the West, he sets off with his young son H.W. for the dusty town of Little Boston. In this arid town, where local entertainment is limited to the Hallelujah Church of the charismatic pastor Eli Sunday (Paul Dano), Plainview strikes his blow. At the same time, all human values – love, hope, faith, ambition, community and even the bond between father and son – come under fire as a result of corruption, deceit and the oil flowing in abundance.

This 2½-hour oil epic is carried by Daniel Day-Lewis, who in an inimitable manner lays bare the worst in human nature. Daniel Day-Lewis won the Golden Globe and Oscar for Best Actor for his role. Combined with a soundtrack of satanic sounds by Radiohead guitarist Johnny Greenwood, this film unfolds as a dizzying whirlwind that ultimately reaches an unprecedented conclusion. There will be blood...
