Palm Photo Prize

Expo

The Palm* Photo Prize, a photography competition organized by Palm* Studios in London, is landing in the Netherlands this year in collaboration with Melkweg Expo for the latest edition of this leading contest. The competition serves as a springboard for emerging and established talents worldwide, aiming to support and showcase the most promising newcomers in the photography world.

This year, from an impressive number of 7700 submissions, 107 exceptional photographers have been selected for the Palm* Photo Prize Shortlist, an honor bestowed by a panel of prominent industry experts. This panel includes Alastair McKimm, former editor-in-chief of i-D, Emma Bowkett, curator and director of photography at FT Weekend Magazine, photographer Dana Lixenberg, and D. Wiafe, artist and course leader at the London College of Communication (UAL). The first prize winner receives a €1000 artist grant, an exclusive Palm* Studios goodie bag, and a coveted Palm* Feature. The second prize is rewarded with a €500 artist grant, along with a personal Palm* feature and goodie bag.

Additionally, the Canvas Represents Mentorship Award offers a valuable mentorship program to one lucky participant, consisting of three personal meetings with the Canvas team, focusing on portfolio reviews and strategic advice for editorial and commercial purposes to guide the winner towards a successful future in the industry.

The Audience Award is determined by the audience visiting Melkweg Expo, as well as by online votes via the official Palm* website. Moreover, INK Studio will support one lucky participant in realizing a personal or editorial project of their choice.

Previous nominated artists and winners include Guen Fiore, Hajar Benjida, Mark Mahaney, Abhishek Khedekar, Kennedi Carter, Daria Svertilova, Mark Sommerfield, Odette England, Donovan Smallwood, Tami Aftab, Max Miechowski, Vivek Vadolia, Caleb Stein, and Silvia Rosi.

As Guen Fiore, second-place winner of the Palm* Photo Prize 2021, once said: "What I always loved about Palm* is the community that it brings together. I’ve always been very proud of being part of that wonderful group of talented people every time I’ve been featured in the exhibition. “Winning the second place in 2021 was an unexpected and amazing moment, it marked a turning point in my career and gave me great exposure."

The exhibition featuring the 107 nominees will be on display at Melkweg Expo until Sunday, June 30th. The winners of 2024 will be announced online on Sunday, June 30th. The full list of nominated photographers can be found here.

An additional group exhibition will also take place at the 10 14 Gallery, London, in September 2024.

The exhibition is made possible by Fotolab Kiekie, Mondriaan Fonds, Capture One, Spectrum, INK, Picter, Canvas Represents, Lock, 10 14 Gallery, New Dimension, and i-D.
