COME VOTE, COME DANCE!

On Thursday, June 6th, you can not only come to vote in your favorite concert hall but also come dance at the brand-new festival sELECTION after fulfilling your civic duty!

In collaboration with the pan-European platform Liveurope, we also offer a stage to emerging European talent on this election night, featuring on the lineup Finnish experimental alt-pop artist M Lore and Portuguese indie/groove/jazz band Casa Bonita. Additionally, De Kiesmannen will reflect on the campaign surrounding the European elections after their successful theater tour.

In our Cinema, DutchCulture – Creative Europe Desk NL is hosting two films, Green Border and Io Capitano, both nominated in the 'best film' category at the European Film Awards 2023. These films critically reflect from a migration perspective on the utopian Europe of the EU. On behalf of Oxfam Novib, Bahram Sadeghi will engage in a discussion with Nugah Shrestha (Politieke Jongeren) and Hidaya Nampiima (Amsterdam City Rights) after the screening of Green Border about freedom, migration, and the borders of Europe. The talk is independent of the film(s), so everyone is welcome to join. Just outside the venue, visitors can have protest slogans screen-printed on vintage shirts and tote bags at the Oxfam Equality Hub.

The music program is made possible by Liveurope: the first European initiative supporting concert halls in promoting emerging musical talent from Europe. The film program was developed in collaboration with Creative Europe Desk NL.

For more information about polling stations and the elections, visit the Gemeente Amsterdam website.

MUSIC

Casa Bonita (Portugal)
Casa Bonita's sound was made for the dance floor - inspired by their favourite DJs and records from Azymuth and Herbie Hancock to André 3000's latest instrumental release, and matured in Lisbon long summer days, the project was born of re-imagining the group's favourite electronic dance tracks with a full band, which served as a springboard for creation. The band's self-titled debut album features ten meandering tracks that transport you to an afternoon in the sun, each named after dishes and drinks the group, whose feelings of home are rooted in family and food, have shared together.

M LORE (Finland)

M LORE is a high energy experimental pop artist whose work has been described by Parkett Channel as “the new frontiers of electronic music.” Featured at events like Transmediale and Ars Electronica, M LORE's live show features an absurd slide-presentation-experimental-noise-EDM-banger-poem, off-kilter dance-pop, and the "bad-boy-girl-machine" along with hard, crispy, impish, and sometimes melancholic pop.
