Indie rock group Mt. Joy was formed in 2016 by high school friends Matt Quinn and Sam Cooper when they both made the move from Philadelphia to LA. They released their first single, 'Astrovan', with the help from bassist Michael Byrnes who they met through Craigsslist. After the songs success, the band added two more members to the band and launched their debutalbum, also called 'Mt. Joy', in 2018. Over the last couple of years, the quintet has had the chance to perform on some big festivals, such as Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits, and has toured with artists such as The Lumineers and Rainbow Kitten Surprise.
The band's last album, 'Orange Blood', was written when Matt and Sam retreated in the desert during the lockdown. 'Orange' is a reference to the sun, since everything in the desert revolves around the sun, and the more darker sound of the album is a result of the harder times during the lockdown. This year, Mt. Joy has released a couple of songs where they worked together with Richy Mitch & The Coal Miners, and Julia Pratt. Give the American band a warm welcome during their debutshow at Melkweg!
