Roots

Melkweg has a long history with traditional Western and non-Western music. You can discover music from all over the world all year round. In 1983 the first Amsterdam Roots Festival took place in the Melkweg and two years earlier, The Grateful Dead did two legendary performances. Ever since, many big names and new talent have taken the stage. Melkweg Roots offers North American traditional music such as country, blues, bluegrass and Americana, but also afrobeat, Colombian cumbia, Anatolian rock and Portuguese fado.
